Creating a Gift Subscription Plan
A Gift Subscription Plan lets a customer pay once, upfront, for a fixed number of deliveries — perfect for gifting a subscription to someone else, or for customers who prefer to pay for a set period all at once instead of a recurring charge.
Getting started
Section titled “Getting started”From your Subsy dashboard, go to Subscription Plans, then click + Gift Plan in the top-right corner.
Step 1 — Plan Name & Description
Section titled “Step 1 — Plan Name & Description”Give your plan a name (e.g. “3-Month Skincare Gift”) and an optional description. These are shown to customers on the product page.
Step 2 — Select Products
Section titled “Step 2 — Select Products”Choose one or more products to attach this plan to. The subscription price is taken directly from each product’s price — you don’t set a separate price here.
Step 3 — Plan Type
Section titled “Step 3 — Plan Type”Choose Gift Subscription (Pre-paid). (For an ongoing recurring charge instead, use Recurring Subscription — see the Regular Plans guide).
This reveals the gift-specific settings:
Gift Duration & Delivery Frequency
Section titled “Gift Duration & Delivery Frequency”- Gift Duration — how long the gift lasts in total (e.g. 3 months).
- Delivery Frequency — how often a delivery goes out during that period (e.g. Monthly).
Subsy automatically works out the total number of deliveries from these two settings — for example, a 3-month gift with monthly delivery means 3 deliveries, charged as a single upfront payment.
“Free shipping” badge
Section titled ““Free shipping” badge”This checkbox only controls whether a “Free shipping” badge/line appears in the gift product’s description on your storefront. It does not control the actual shipping charge at checkout.
Gift Product Image (Optional)
Section titled “Gift Product Image (Optional)”Upload an image specifically for the gift version of this product. It’s added to your Shopify Files and used as the product image for the gift listing.
Auto-convert to recurring subscription
Section titled “Auto-convert to recurring subscription”Enable this if you want the gift to automatically continue as a regular recurring subscription once the gift period ends, charging the customer going forward at the regular (non-gift) price. Leave this unchecked if the subscription should simply end once all prepaid deliveries are sent.
Step 4 — Pricing Overview
Section titled “Step 4 — Pricing Overview”Set an Additional Discount (%) if you want to offer a discount on top of the regular product price for this gift plan. Review the calculated total price, then click Create Plan.
Managing an existing gift plan
Section titled “Managing an existing gift plan”From the plan list under the Gift Subscriptions tab, you can:
- Edit — change duration, frequency, or discount settings.
- Disable — hide the plan from customers without deleting it (existing gift subscribers are unaffected).
- Delete — permanently remove the plan (only do this if no customers are subscribed to it).
What happens after checkout
Section titled “What happens after checkout”- The customer pays once, upfront, for the full gift duration.
- Deliveries go out automatically according to the frequency you set — no further charges during the gift period.
- If Auto-convert is enabled, the subscription continues as a regular recurring subscription (at the regular price) once all prepaid deliveries are complete. If not enabled, the subscription is marked completed after the last delivery.
